Worker Murdered in Dubai Parking Lot
Two Indian men have just been charged with murder for cutting the throat of a fellow Indian while inside his car parked at Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 2.
The two Indian men, aged 31 and 23, are reported to have waited for two hours for their victim to finish his work at the airport on November 13th 2008. They followed him to his car in the airport parking lot and one man jumped into the passenger seat where he restrained the victim while the other assailant sat behind him, pulling his head back by the hair and cutting his throat.
Prosecution evidence showed that the murder is reported to have been carried out over money that was allegedly owed by the victim. They had reportedly been following their victim for two months before they finally murdered him.
The case is next expected to be heard at the Dubai Criminal Court on August 24th.
It has been proposed that a specialist prosecution office is established at the airport to handle the increase in criminal activity. Between January 1st and June 30th 2007 there were a total of 3,234 reported cases and this figure increased to 3,452 during the same period in 2008.
It is expected that the specialist airport prosecution will improve the speed of legal processes resulting from crimes detected at the airport. The new service is expected to improve litigation services and reduce workload. Apparently around 80 to 90% of drug suspects caught at the airport had hidden the drugs in capsules inside their bodies, primarily by swallowing.
It is thought that increased vigilance in cracking down on narcotics trafficking has led to the sharp drop in drug cases detected at the airport. It has been stated that the number of narcotics related cases at the airport have fallen by as much as 30% in the first half of 2009. Most of the drug trafficking cases (95%) were found to be for small amounts, brought into the country for personal use.
